OVER THE PAST QUARTER CENTURY, and particularly within the past decade, the phenomenal worldwide demand for ever-increasing oil production has placed the province of Alberta in a highly important, enviable and lucrative position. And, the same can be said for those companies that are required to apply their particular knowledge and expertise to help meet these demands. Voice Construction is one of these companies. More importantly, Voice Construction is a company that has long realized the vital role that it plays in the oil industry in this province and, since 1994, has made a calculated and strategic decision to focus its strengths strictly within the oil sector, and on the Alberta Oil Sands in particular.

BEGINNING WITH ROAD BUILDING IN THE 1930’s, wartime airport construction in the 40’s, major civil engineering projects in the 50’s and 60’s, and then through the massive development of petrochemical facilities during the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, Voice has continuously strived to remain at the forefront of construction technology and service capabilities. The terms earthmoving and site preparation don’t begin to describe the proficiencies and operational expertise that Voice brings to bear on every project the Company undertakes. Industrial work of this nature requires finely tuned methods and highly specialized equipment, and Voice never fails to rise to the challenge. With each new project, Voice has dramatically increased its knowledge base and consistently refined the skills of every employee throughout the Company’s operations, maintaining its position as a recognized and highly regarded leader in petrochemical facility construction. The Company’s vast experience in a variety of engineering disciplines has allowed Voice to develop a complete and intrinsic understanding of the primary construction and long-term maintenance of industrial plant sites.

CAPITALIZING ON THEIR UNRIVALLED EXPERTISE in site preparation, underground utilities and tank foundation work, Voice maintains the ability to marshal their logistic and manpower resources on a diversity of projects, province-wide. With recent and on-going equipment acquisitions, including massive new excavators and rock trucks, Voice can mobilize over 470 pieces of heavy machinery from their internal fleet.

VOICE HAS MADE IT A CORPORATE POLICY to own all of their equipment outright, keeping the fleet state-of-the-art at all times. The Company continuously researches, pinpoints and acquires the very best available equipment on the market, and in those situations where the appropriate machine can’t be sourced, Voice will design and engineer it themselves, invariably building in significant improvements over other similar equipment.

VOICE FIRMLY BELIEVES that preventative maintenance of their equipment fleet is money well spent. For decades the Company has operated a major repair and maintenance shop at their yards in Edmonton. Staffed with a full regiment of heavy- duty mechanics and other specialized personnel, Voice is dedicated to ensuring that all equipment is consistently operating at 100% peak efficiency. These service capabilities are equally matched by a similar facility in Fort McMurray, along with a squad of fully equipped maintenance trucks that are on-call 24 hours a day for rapid, on-site repairs. As the heavy equipment demands in oil sands development will only increase, it is imperative that Voice can guarantee their maintenance, their machines and their capabilities. Not only are their service standards first-class, they are best in class.

ALTHOUGH THE VOICE EQUIPMENT FLEET is enormously important, the Company would whither if not for its motivated and dedicated work force. With a seasonal peak of almost 700 employees, Voice strives to ensure that each superintendent, foreman, operator and labourer is highly experienced and qualified in their respective professions. Every superintendent has at least 20 years on the job, and more than a few have celebrated their 45th year with Voice. This comprehensive understanding of petrochemical facility construction has fostered a fundamental knowledge of engineering practices and technologies throughout the Voice organization.

THIS COMPETITIVE KNOWLEDGE has also fostered firm relationships between Voice, their clients and key stakeholders, and has directly resulted in a corporate culture that both emphasizes and ensures the safest and most efficient methods and procedures, advocating communication, co-ordination and cooperation at every level. Voice relies on industry proven software and hardware to ensure that company leadership possesses the up to date information that is vital for day to day operations and, more importantly, successful project delivery. From on-site satellite uplinks to fiber optic connections between offices, Voice continually embraces any and all technical advantages that will benefit their growth, and their client’s bottom line.

THE HISTORY OF VOICE CONSTRUCTION is directly tied to the history of industrial development in Alberta. From its inception, and through decades of exponential growth, Voice has established a richly deserved reputation for dedication and dependability across this province. The Company’s rock solid relationships with leading oil sands clients, coupled with a categorical understanding of future development objectives, has provided Voice with a concrete foundation for unprecedented growth and expansion. As Arthur A. Voice once said, “It just all comes down to common horse sense.”
